Resume:

.- Irakli Beridze is the head of the Center for AI & Robotics for the UN's crime and justice department (UNICRI).

.- UNICRI's mission is to help member states understand how AI and robotics can enhance security and crime prevention while minimizing risks.

.- AI can contribute to fighting certain aspects of crime, but will not lead to an entirely crime-free society.

.- As AI becomes more sophisticated, criminals will also increasingly exploit it for malicious purposes.

.- Three main ways criminals may use AI: for digital crimes like developing malware, physical crimes using drones/robots, and political crimes like deepfakes.

.- UNICRI cooperates with Interpol and Europol to make law enforcement aware of AI risks/opportunities and improve AI techniques for policing.

.- Ethical concerns exist around certain AI applications for crime prevention, as they could infringe on privacy rights, freedom and democracy if implemented prematurely.

.- The UN Secretary General has identified the disruptive impact of fast-developing technologies like AI as one of two major epochal challenges facing humanity.

.- Understanding the challenges, problems and disruptions that will arise from AI development is a primary issue for the UN and humanity as a whole.

.- Multi-stakeholder cooperation between law enforcement, governments, private sector and academia is key to exploring these AI issues through events UNICRI organizes with partners.
